5 Easy Handmade Birthday Card Ideas
Handmade cards don't need to be complicated to look lovely. All of these use basic tools: card blanks, patterned paper, a craft punch or scissors and glue.
1. The layered panel
Cut a rectangle of patterned paper slightly smaller than your card front, then a plain piece slightly smaller again. Layer them, add a sentiment sticker or stamp, and you're done. Simple layers always look smart.
2. Punched confetti
Use a circle or heart punch on scraps of coloured paper and glue the shapes falling down the card front like confetti. Great for using up offcuts.
3. The washi stripe
Stick strips of washi tape diagonally across the card front, trim the ends, and add a "Happy Birthday" label in the middle.
4. Pop-up balloons
Cut balloon shapes from bright paper and stick them onto the card with foam pads so they stand out. Draw the strings with a fine pen. It's perfect for kids to help with.
5. Paper flower bouquet
Make tiny flowers by punching or cutting small circles, folding and layering them, then arranging them in a paper "vase" or bouquet wrap on the card front. For bigger blooms, see our crepe paper flower guide.
