How to Wrap a Bouquet Like a Florist
Whether it's fresh flowers from the garden or a bunch of artificial flowers you've arranged yourself, a neat wrap turns it into a proper gift. Here's the classic florist's method.
What you'll need
- Bouquet wrapping paper: kraft paper for a rustic look, or patterned and translucent sheets for something softer
- Ribbon or twine
- Florist tape or an elastic band
- Scissors
1. Arrange and tie the stems
Hold the flowers in one hand and add stems one at a time at a slight angle, turning the bunch as you go. This "spiral" makes the bouquet fan out nicely. Tie the stems tightly where your hand holds them.
2. Cut the paper
You'll need two to four sheets, roughly square and a little taller than the flowers. Using two contrasting papers (kraft plus a coloured or patterned sheet) looks extra special.
3. Wrap the back
Place one sheet behind the bouquet at an angle, with a corner pointing up. Gather it around the tie point.
4. Wrap the sides and front
Add a sheet to each side, overlapping the first, gathering each at the tie point. Leave the front of the flowers visible. Pinch the paper tightly at the binding point and secure with tape or an elastic band.
5. Finish with ribbon
Tie a ribbon over the binding point and finish with a generous bow. Trim the stems evenly at the bottom.
Tips
- Fold back the top edge of a sheet for a neat, layered look.
- For fresh flowers, wrap the stems in damp kitchen paper and a small plastic bag before wrapping.
- A handwritten tag finishes the gift.
