6 Easy Pipe Cleaner Crafts for Kids
A pack of chenille sticks, better known as pipe cleaners, can keep kids happily busy for hours. They bend into any shape, need no glue and come in every colour. Here are six easy ideas.
1. Fuzzy flowers
Bend one stick into five loops for petals, twist the end into the centre, and add a green stick for the stem. Make a bunch and pop them in a jar for a bouquet that lasts forever.
2. Bracelets and rings
Thread beads onto a pipe cleaner, wrap it around the wrist, and twist the ends together. Twist two colours together for a candy-cane look.
3. Spiders and caterpillars
Bundle four sticks, twist them in the middle and bend out eight legs for a spider. For a caterpillar, wrap a stick around a pencil to make a spring, then slide it off.
4. Pipe cleaner animals
Wind sticks around a finger or pencil to make coils for bodies, then bend on ears, legs and tails. Bunnies, dogs and snakes are good starters.
5. Glasses and crowns
Bend two circles for lenses and add arms to make silly party glasses, or twist zig-zags onto a headband-sized loop for a crown.
6. Names and letters
Bend sticks into letters to spell names for bedroom doors or birthday cards.
Tips for parents
- Pipe cleaners have a wire core with sharp ends. Fold the tips over, and supervise young children.
- Pair them with pom-poms, googly eyes and beads for extra fun.
- Glittery and striped sticks make projects really sparkle.
